Every 75 minutes, a road accident takes place in the twin cities and Cyberabad

On an average, every 75 minutes, a road accident takes place in the twin cities and Cyberabad. The major hospitals get around four or five road accident cases daily.

  • According to traffic authorities, 359 fatal accidents have occurred in the twin cities, while Cyber-abad reported 1,075 fatal accidents this year till November 2011.
  • Most of the accidents are caused by overspeeding. Despite the Outer Ring Road turning into a death trap, there’s no emergency trauma care centre on the 91-km stretch that is open for traffic, and casualties have to be rushed to hospitals kilometres away in Jubilee Hills, Hitec City, Malakpet or LB Nagar.
  • Dr Bhaskar Rao, Kims Hospital CEO and president of AP super specialty hospitals (Asha) says the hospital receives around three or four accident cases every day.“From the nature of the injuries it is evident that most of the accidents are due to speed driving or drunken driving in two or four wheelers and for not following safety measures,” he said.
  • Apollo Hospital, Jubilee Hills and Yashoda hospitals also report three to five accident victims daily.
  • Cyberabad deputy commissioner of police S. Chandrasekhar Reddy said, “On an average, we have around 80-90 fatal cases a month in the area. In November alone, there were 93 cases. Most of these are due to over-speeding cars and bikes.”
Fatal figures
